Construction Begins on Prince George Airport Runway Extension

Construction has begun on the $36 million dollar runway extension project at the Prince George Airport. The first phase broke ground this morning and will focus on the south end of runway 15/33 working northwards and is expected to run into early spring. 

IDL / Sharp Joint Venture have been awarded the $7 million dollar 1^st phase of the runway project which entails drainage and site preparation for the next phase of the 2 year project. 

The Prince George Airport Authority's runway project will see the main runway extend to 11,400ft complete with center line lighting, dual ILS navigational systems and a dedicated deicing refueling pad for wide body aircraft and will allow the PGAA to market the airport as a transpacific techstop alternative to International air carriers. This will also enable carriers to consider Prince George for international passenger services. The runway will be open in fall of 2008. 

Partnership funding from the Province of British Columbia, Government of Canada and Northern Development Initiative Trust have made this project a reality.

During this project the Prince George Airport will remain open and fully functional, the PGAA and our contractors have taken every measure to ensure any inconvenience to our customers has been mitigated.

Parking Lot Expansion

December 2006

Prince George Airport Authority awards construction contract for parking lot expansion and rehabilitation.

The Prince George Airport Authority announced today that a $3.1 million contract has been awarded to Western Industrial Contractors (WIC) Ltd of Prince George, BC for the rehabilitation and expansion of the Prince George Airport's main parking lot and realignment of the airport roadway system.

Jim Blake, Chair of the Prince George Airport Authority said today, "This represents another step towards our goal in building an airport that truly serves the needs of our region. We have expanded our terminal areas to accommodate increased passenger levels, this as we see it is a natural progression to better serve our customers."

This will be a two phase project with the bulk of the work being completed this summer and the remainder being completed in spring of 2007. Work on this project will begin immediately and is expected to take 4 months.

The Prince George Airport Authority is currently in their third year of operations of the Airport. The PGAA is committed to building an airport that represents the needs of our region's residents and facilitating growth in tourism and industry.
